Boeing Chinook Contract Includes $158M Reinvestment in Ontario

BURLINGTON, Ontario, Sept. 24, 2009 – The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] announced today that it will provide contracts worth more than US$158 million to companies in the province of Ontario. The announcement follows the Canadian government’s order in August for 15 new CH-47F Chinook heavy-lift helicopters, to be designated CH-147 in Canada.

In line with Canada’s Industrial & Regional Benefits policy, Boeing will match every dollar spent by the Canadian government in acquiring its CH-147 fleet by partnering with and issuing contracts to companies in Canada.

"The CH-147 contract is a win for Canadian industry as well as for Boeing," said Pete Peterson, Canada country director for Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. “Boeing seeks to work with the very best of industry, as our history of partnership in Canada shows. Canada is home to one of the largest international supplier bases for Boeing, including nearly 85 firms in Ontario.

"With the CH-147 program, we continue that tradition, bringing new opportunities for Canadian industry, including our partners here in Ontario. These opportunities will result in long-term, high-value jobs for Canadians," Peterson added.

To date, Boeing has identified direct and indirect work packages and investments with several partners based in Ontario, including:

Along with the total $1.15 billion Boeing will reinvest across Canada as part of the delivery contract, Boeing could provide industry benefits in excess of $2 billion over 20 years for potential in-service support of the CH-147 fleet.

The Canadian CH-147s will be produced at the Boeing facility in Ridley Township, Pa., with deliveries expected between 2013 and 2014.

A unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is one of the world’s largest space and defense businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions, and the world’s largest and most versatile manufacturer of military aircraft.
