James (Jim) Barnes

Jim Barnes is the director of Business Development in Canada for Defense, Space & Security (BDS), one of the world's largest defense, space and security businesses specializing in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions. Based in Ottawa, Barnes oversees strategic planning and business development activities for Boeing’s defense products and services to the Canadian government. He is responsible for the operation of the Boeing Ottawa office, with a focus on government relations and customer satisfaction.
Barnes has a unique blend of business development, program management and engineering experience that he has gained over the past 28 years with The Boeing Company. Previous assignments have included managing the Canada, Malaysia and Japan Super Hornet campaigns, serving as the on-site representative at Patuxent River, Md., for BDS naval programs, and contributing to the development and testing of a variety of aircraft and missile systems.
Barnes holds an MBA from Duke University and a bachelor‘s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park. He has completed the Canadian Security Studies Programme, Department of Defense Security Assistance Management executive course and Boeing Capture Team Leader training, and has received several awards and recognitions throughout his career. He serves on the boards of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada, the American Chamber of Commerce in Canada, and Boeing Canada Holdings Ltd.
