  • Bluedrop Training and Simulation to advance capabilities for Boeing’s CV-22 trainer program
  • Partnership reinforces Boeing's commitment to industrial investments

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Sept. 29, 2025 — Boeing is investing $1.4 million CAD in Bluedrop Training and Simulation to advance capabilities for the CV-22 Osprey Program. This strategic investment, part of the Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) program following Canada’s selection of Boeing’s P-8A Poseidon, highlights Boeing’s commitment to driving economic growth in Atlantic Canada.

“With over a century of partnership in Canada, we are dedicated to providing innovative training solutions, supporting local industry and strengthening communities,” said Al Meinzinger, president of Boeing Canada. “This investment in Bluedrop achieves these goals.”

Boeing’s investment will enable Bluedrop to integrate the CV-22 Special Mission Aviator Ramp Trainer (SMART) into the Distributed Mission Operations network globally. The project will provide full-mission simulation training for both rear and front crew members, ensuring a common mission can be executed seamlessly with both the pilot flight simulator and the CV-22 SMART trainer. It will also allow for safe practice of recurrent procedures and high-risk, low-repetition mission scenarios at a fraction of the cost of actual flights.

“The partnership between Boeing and Bluedrop Training and Simulation illustrates how Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits Policy can serve as a catalyst for long term economic resilience,” said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. “By investing in a leading-edge Canadian firm with deep expertise in aerospace training systems, Boeing, through this collaboration, is helping to anchor advanced capabilities in Atlantic Canada. It’s a clear example of how strategic industrial policy can support innovation, create high-quality employment and position Canadian companies to compete—and lead—on the global stage.”

Bluedrop is a key supplier for Boeing, contributing to various programs for more than a decade, including Canada’s C-17 Globemaster and CH-47F Chinook. All the CV-22 development and integration work will occur at Bluedrop’s Halifax facility before field testing at Kirtland Air Force Base in the U.S.

“Boeing has been a strong supporter of Bluedrop, playing a pivotal role in fostering the company’s innovation and growth,” said Derrick Rowe, CEO of Bluedrop Training & Simulation Inc. “Through this long-standing collaboration, Boeing has championed the development of a Canadian small-to-medium enterprise, helping Bluedrop expand its capabilities, strengthen its workforce, and deliver cutting-edge solutions to the aerospace and defence industry.”

The recent acquisition of the P-8A multi-mission aircraft by the Government of Canada is projected to create and sustain over 340 jobs and generate approximately $34 million annually in economic benefits for Atlantic Canada, according to a 2023 study by Ottawa-based Doyletech. This builds upon over $237 million in historic ITB credits generated from existing Boeing Canada programs, benefiting 16 Atlantic companies, including 11 small and medium-sized businesses.

“Nova Scotia is a proven destination for defence and aerospace-related investment. We are home to globally recognized training and simulation expertise, such as Bluedrop; strong academic partnerships; and a clear path to earning ITB credits,” said the Honourable Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia. “We invite companies to explore the opportunities here and grow with a province that delivers real impact.”
